Winter came early this year and has settled into a good old fashioned Muskoka winter with lots and lots of snow and some very cold nights and days. Snow loads have been huge throughout the region and most property owners know by now that their roofs and porches need shoveling. Lake-effect streamers have hit some areas like Bracebridge and Gravenhurst much harder than others.
The lakes froze over as early as they ever have and the snowmobile trails opened early with lots of snow. Here in Port Sandfield the cut between Lakes Joe and Rosseau has frozen over thanks to some of the record low temperatures hit recently at night( -37 C Jan.21/2014). If you’re one of those that enjoy running the open water under the swing bridge with your snowmobile you’ll have to wait for warmer days.
Environment Canada has predicted normal temperatures for February – something to look forward to.
Better yet, look forward to a sunny and warm summer on the dock.
