After a wet and cool June start, the cottage season was looking like a repeat of the past few years. Thankfully July, August and September enjoyed warmer and sunnier weather than we’ve had for some time and we all had a memorable summer. Fall is here and after Thanksgiving it’s time to start preparing for winter.

The summer that never was is over and Fall wasted no time in arriving in full force. We have been harvesting our giant pumpkins since the first week of September for the market in Port Sandfield and bringing up the best of Ontario’ Fall fruits and vegetables. The leaf colours here in Muskoka are spectacular and a weekend at the cottage is a must this time of year.

This time of year provides the widest variety of locally grown fruits and vegetables available in Ontario. Sweet corn is at it’s very sweetest, local apples are coming to market, raspberries and strawberries are still coming from ever-bearing fields and the watermelons are dripping in flavour. Niagara peaches are exceptional and Fall squashes are rolling in.
